My (Bad) Experience with MyTrip – Part 1

Paid Cancellation Insurance but No Refund for Medical Reason

I am sharing my experience with MyTrip to inform other travelers and to highlight what appears to be a serious issue regarding cancellation insurance.

In October 2025, I purchased a flight ticket through MyTrip. During the booking process, I also paid for cancellation protection, specifically to cover situations where travel would not be possible due to medical reasons.

Unfortunately, I later faced a genuine medical issue that prevented me from traveling. As required, I provided a valid medical certificate and submitted all supporting documents to MyTrip in order to request a refund under the terms of the insurance.

Despite this, my refund request was refused or not properly processed.

To provide a clear comparison: we had also booked a separate train journey to reach the airport the day before, with cancellation coverage through Allianz. Using the same medical justification, that refund was processed without any issue.

This situation raises important concerns:

  • The cancellation protection was sold as covering medical inability to travel
  • All required documentation was provided
  • The refund has not been honored

From a consumer perspective, this creates a serious gap between what is promised at the time of purchase and what is delivered in practice.

I have now formally contacted MyTrip and requested a full monetary refund. If the issue is not resolved, I will escalate the matter to Allmänna reklamationsnämnden and report the case to Konsumentverket.

This experience highlights an important lesson for travelers: even when purchasing additional protection, it is essential to verify how claims are handled in reality.

I hope to be able to update this post with a ISSUE SOLVED. To be continued…
